Oklahoma Health Insurance Laws and Regulations

Oklahoma health insurance companies look at every applicant's health history before they provide coverage and set monthly premiums.

Keep in mind that plans in the high risk pool can be expensive.

In the private health insurance market, Oklahoma health insurance law requires that all health plans provide coverage for these medical services:

  • Mammograms
  • Screening for prostate, colorectal, and cervical cancer
  • Care for pregnant women
  • Hearing aids for children
  • Vaccinations for children

Oklahoma health insurance law also requires mental health parity, which means Oklahoma health insurance companies must provide equal benefits for physical health conditions and mental health conditions.

Oklahoma Health Insurance High Risk Pool

Residents in Oklahoma with medical conditions will be able to get health insurance from a high risk pool set up by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) in Oklahoma will work similar to regular Oklahoma health insurance plans. The plans will require enrollees to pay affordable premiums and out-of-pocket costs.

Enrollees in the Oklahoma PCIP will pay around the same amount that people without pre-existing conditions pay for health insurance. The estimated premiums for Oklahoma residents range from $137 to $702 per month. The plan has a $2,000 deductible for medical services and a $200 deductible for prescription drugs. There is also an out-of-pocket limit set at $5,950 a year.

People in Oklahoma with medical conditions will have coverage for prescription drugs, emergency services, doctor and hospital visits and more.

Individuals may apply for the Oklahoma program if they have a pre-existing condition, are a United States citizen, and have been without health insurance for six months.
